Please help....I keep self diagnosing myself with random illnesses?!

Question: Please help....I keep self diagnosing myself with random illnesses?
K so my sister and mom are physiologist so I hear a lot about random illnesses. Anyway I also think I have OCD because I think random thoughts over and over again that make no sense and I have to like have a regular routine all the time or I'll think I'll have a bad day, then I though I was schizphrenic for a while because sometimes I'm like what if that person hears what I'm thinking then I'm screwed and like what if all these people are doing this just to be mean to ME even though it's obvious they aren't. Anyway do you think anything is wierd? No wierd or rude comments please.

Hi Heather.

You sound like me, (we're pretty NORMAL to be perfectly honest). I too went through that when I was growing up and I used to search the internet and convince myself I was either dying or going insane. I no longer search the net for weird and wonderful conditions because it is a waste of time and energy and I never, not once, had any condition that I believed I had.

You have to stop doing that to yourself and you sound like you'd benefit from some Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and the perfect people to ask for help in getting that are...your mom and your sister!

Tell them exactly how you are feeling. It is making you unnecessarily worried and unhappy when they talk about work related things in front of you and they would be concerned and upset to know they are causing you panic and worry. Go to the source of the problem - which is is them.

There's actually brain tests and visual tests which confirm if you are a schizophrenic or not and you don't have the symptoms - you have a little paranoia about what people think of you and that my friend, is normal - and you will grow out of it, I promise. No one can hear what you're thinking...and even if they could, so what. Every other young person is very busy being concerned about what OTHER people think of THEM, so think of it that way.

Like I say - ask your mom for help, she will be absolutely on your side. Just calmly tell them what you've said here, and take it from there. You will feel so much better once you have spoken to your mom about this.

Good luck.

Self diagnosing is not healthy... If you think you have a illness just ask your sister or mom
