I have a question about depression and Lexapro?!

Question: I have a question about depression and Lexapro?
I've been on Lexapro for OCD and GAD for almost a month. I started off at 10mgs and got bumped up to 15mgs a couple weeks ago.

Prior to taking starting the meds, I was usually feeling depressed but I don't know if I actually suffer from depression. However, since taking the meds, I only can count a few days that I've felt really low. I'm not happy but I'm not constantly wallowing in my misery anymore.

I know the role of an antidepressant is to increase serotonin, which in turn relieves anxiety/depression. But because I was never diagnosed, I never assumed I actually suffered from true depression disorder.

So my question is, because my feelings have improved...does that mean I have, or had, clinical depression?

Answers:

It's possible you've had depression. For some reason, Anxiety and Depression seem to go "hand in hand" with each other. Which causes the other, I don't know.

I have both anxiety and depression, and Lexapro has worked wonders for me. If you've only been on it for a month, you still have a few weeks to go before the Lexapro reaches its "fully functional" level in your system. I would *not* increase your dose beyond the 15 mg dose you're on, until you've been on that dose (the 15 mg) for at least two months. You really don't want to be on a higher dose than you really need to be on, and doctors tend to "push" you to a higher dose, before the dose your on has broken in. If you do get on too high of a dose, you'll feel like you're "in a fog" all the time.

Best of luck =)

I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me.
