I have an appointment with my psychiatrist this afternoon, I feel as if I am bre!

Question: I have an appointment with my psychiatrist this afternoon, I feel as if I am breaking down, should I cancel?
I have an appointment with my psychiatrist at 3 PM and I am losing it. I am so tired and overwhelmed and it's too much. I've only seen her twice and the last time was in october and I don't know what to say to her. I'm at my wits end..

What do I tell her ? I just can't take it anymore. I just want to lay down and die

Should I cancel the appt and just not waste her time ? I feel like such a waste

Answers:

I would suggest that you suck it up and make yourself go. I do cancel a few appointments, rarely, but I have seen my doctor for years so she knows me and my problems.

can you ask family or friends to come help you with other tasks so you are less overwhelmed? sometimes, if someone can just come over and tidy up your home and wash dishes for you, and cook a casserole or something, that can really help.

try to get some bright light outside - you could have seasonal depression, or your depression is partly seasonal. this is so common. It does help if you can force yourself to go for a walk, also. It is so hard when you are really depressed, but if you kick yourself really hard, the light outside and the walk will probably help.

all the best to you

I've had bipolar for 30 years and the depression is chronic now

Hi Sarah,

Definitely you should go. If you aren't sure what to tell her print out a copy of this question (and the answers if you want to show her what other people are saying to you) and take it with you.

Please remember that a psychiatrist is trained to help identify problems associated with emotional and psychological complaints and may determine that there are physical disorders that contribute to your feelings and need to be treated but they also evaluate your personal experiences and other factors that may be contributing to your feelings. It is important to be as open and honest as you can and, if you do not feel comfortable with the person you are working with you need to tell them that and either work out the issue or ask for a referral to another doctor. Good therapists will not be judgmental and will be able to suggest strategies and techniques to help reduce stress and cope with your feelings of being overwhelmed.

Please do this, it may be hard, and it won't "get better" overnight but there are lots of people who have gone through similar problems and there are lots of people who can and will help if you let them.

I hope that helps. P.S. Contact me by email and let me know how it goes if you wish.

Personal experience, multiple experiences with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

Don't cancel it...go there see how it makes u feel. Depending on that u can choose if you want to go back or not.

Sometimes there are no help, but if anything they will help you question and judge things better

No go to the appointment - you clearly need help.

i know it's not easy, but you'll never overcome your problems if you don't get help for it.

in my opinion ,you should go.Try to tell her how you feel. That's her job!
