Question: How Is It That Some People with Amnesia Can Remember Their Name When Asked To Write It?
One of my parent's friends is a doctor and he was telling me about the time he treated someone who had amnesia due to a work injury.

He couldn't remember his name when asked, but when the doctor gave him a pen and told him that he has to sign his name on the form (it's a technique that doctors use) the guy was able to write his name down.

His handwriting was a little scribbled but he got his name down and the amnesia patient was surprised himself that he did it.

How can something like this work? How can you not know your name but give you a pen and you can write it down?

Answers:

I can't answer that and it is doubtful even a neuro-scientist can. The human mind works in mysterious ways and science really knows little about it.
