do you think i have any disorders?!

Question: Do you think i have any disorders?
-i get extremely nervous a lot (especially when talking to people and when taking tests)
-most of the time i have to read over the same sentence many times in order to understand it
-i think of things differently than other people usually would (like if i am looking at someones shoes i would think about how every string goes together to make that pattern)
-i cant stop obsessing over how embarrassing some of my experiences were
-i get annoyed when something is awkward looking (like if someones hair had a uneven part)
-i zone out a lot during school and start thinking about really random things (like what would happen if the sun died out)
-i always try as hard as i could to be perfect at everything i do
Please tell me if you think i have anything wrong with me even if its not that severe. thank you :)

Answers:

Behaviors are only disorders when they keep you from living your life.

----

-i get extremely nervous a lot

"Extremely nervous" is one thing, shutting down is another. It's completely normal to get sweaty hands and feel your heart rate increase when you're taking a test or talking to someone you're not familiar with. It's not normal to completely clam up in a conversation, or to get so nervous that you feel like you're going to faint or throw up.

-----

-most of the time i have to read over the same sentence many times in order to understand it

Reading comprehension is something that's different for everyone. Is it when you read ANYTHING, like books you enjoy, video game subtitles or other instructions? Or is it when you're being tested in English class? It's very common to have a hard time comprehending something that isn't interesting or relevant, like stories you're asked to read in class and answer questions about.

If you can't read ANYTHING without understanding it the first time, there may be a problem.

If it's only a problem while reading something you're not interested in, it is probably just your brain deciding for you "this isn't worth comprehending right now" which forces you to read it twice.

-i think of things differently than other people usually would (like if i am looking at someones shoes i would think about how every string goes together to make that pattern)

Many people do that :) I used to stare at the tangled strings for my bedroom window's blinds, following the loops and figuring out if pulling one of the strings would make a knot. Perfectly normal. Humans love finding patterns and mentally seeing and tracing lines.

----

-i cant stop obsessing over how embarrassing some of my experiences were

Everyone has bad memories, but it's your choice to decide to think a certain thought or re-live an experience as if it was the first time. People don't tell you this, but you actually have a LOT of control over what you think. If you begin "reliving" a bad experience, such as a fight or an embarrassing moment, you have to actively and deliberately tell yourself "no, I'm not going to think about this" and start thinking about something else.

The initial feeling of a memory is unexpected and you can't stop it, but it will only last for 90 seconds if you get yourself to think about something else. If you let yourself relive it, you could have strong and negative emotions for several minutes or even hours. But if you think about your favorite song, a scene from your favorite movie, or a happy memory, then the emotions will go away quickly and you can move on!

----

-i get annoyed when something is awkward looking

That's another aspect of being a human and liking order and pattern. When something is off, it triggers something in your brain that says "something isn't 100% right" and it's difficult for some people to ignore those triggers. The trick is to tell yourself "It's okay, it's not hurting anyone." You can like order and tidiness, but you also can't control everything around you :)

----

-i zone out a lot during school and start thinking about really random things (like what would happen if the sun died out)

Perfectly normal. Find me someone who sits at a desk all day every day and pays attention to yammering teachers the whole time. THAT kid is the one who's not normal.

----

-i always try as hard as i could to be perfect at everything i do

This is a normal tendency, though you need to make sure to keep balance and realize that perfection shouldn't be the goal. Teachers rarely tell you this, but reaching a goal or creating a final product is only half of what it means to "do" something or "make" something. The other half is about how you do it, how you make it.

If you are ridiculously unhappy, if you are throwing things together last minute, if you're crying and sweating over something, then it doesn't matter that the final goal is perfect, because getting to that goal wasn't done right.

Sometimes you have to choose between doing something the right way and doing something perfectly. The right way may leave you with a less-than-perfect image - your grades are B's instead of A's because you took the time to stop and understand what you're learning instead of just mindlessly repeating what the teacher says. You might seem like a less fun person on the surface because you're not posting the "right" stuff on Facebook.

Perfection is impossible. Trying to be perfect is stressful. Choosing to be happy and to do things the "right" way for you will lead to a much better life.

I felt all of these things a lot when I was your age, im 20 now and hell I still get anxious a lot, seem to think differently than other people, etc. and im doing fine. Im about a year away from getting a Bachelors degree in Business, I have a great full time job, a loving girlfriend and many friends. Just dont let it get to you, you are who you are

life

Sounds like youre an introvert, you also seem like you have social anxiety. similar here i too get nervous a lot andam absent minded and i too get irritated by awkwardly looking things.. just a question do you like being alone?

see a doctor for the anxiety but everything else seems normal..

I really am no doctor but i am studying psychology in college and you sound fine to me, could be all in your head. Everyone day dreams and has pet peeves about silly things. but if you obsesse over certain things then it could be OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) but u sound fine to me honestly. If it is ruining your daily life then i would say get a professionals opinion on it.

I do the same exact thing. You don't have a problem. It's just you. Try not too let it bother you too much.(:
