I'm really afraid, please help (10PTS!)?!

Question: I'm really afraid, please help (10PTS!)?
I just found out that I have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Any advice? I'm terrified....

Answers:

This a very common disorder and many people have this. There's nothing to worry about if you take care of yourself. You probulary already know some risks if things go too far but usually if anything happened in the past you should be familiar with it. I was tested for this and it worried me because I never thought I would be in this situation. During the time I waited everything seem to be smooth and go very simple. From personal experience I learned a little more about this and hearing everybody else's stories I went through this very well. I was a little uncomfortable knowing that I had to attend therapy and was embarrassed but knowing that I was less frighten and gained my self confident back. For you, I recommend that you just go on with your regular life and don't be afraid of something new. Here's some information that I found for myself and made me get myself back on track and I hope you find it useful too. =) hope I helped!!

Been there

In order for ANYONE to have hope in recovering from an illness, they have to LEARN about it.

There are at least 16 different personality disorders and sub categories.
The way you develop a personality disorder is to have been abused or neglected in childhood. When this happens, the patient develops inappropriate ways of coping, thinking and reacting in this world.

Now, because this is a permanent part of their personality, the patient doesn't always accept the fact that they have the disorder. They just like to think that they are "unfortunate" when they get into trouble (and they will) and that other people are making trouble for them instead of them making the trouble themselves. And so these people are REALLY DIFFICULT to work with and cure.

But a cure is not impossible. It takes many years, even a decade of counseling and a lot of work before the patient is able to learn new ways of coping, thinking and adjusting to life. They need to learn new life skills that wil replace the old behaviors in order to recover. This is a lot of work but not impossible.

And so, if you REALLY want to help yourself, start by finding a good therapist whom you can work with. Explore the roots of the behaviors that you've learned and read everything you can about your disease.
Help yourself to be well.
I wish you every success and all the best.

I'm sorry! Not that I'm trying to offend you or anyone who has it, but I'm sorry you're so scared about it & obviously no one wants to have it. I can't help because I've never heard of it, but I just read about the symptoms a little & stuff. Just try to stay strong. I don't know what else to say. I really wish I could help!

Please email me if you can. I will help you with this to the best of my ability.

I too have some (undiagnosed) personality issues.

Personal experience.
