Question: This cant be normal? Do i need to see a therapist! Help?
Whenever someone calls me 'selfish' doesnt matter if there being nice or mean or saying it as a joke i just burst into tears? Is that normal...

Everytime its said to me. If someone just says your being selfish. My heart like feels like theres pressure on it, and my throat closes up and i just like cry... Is it normal?

Answers:

There's a reason your body is reacting this way when people call you selfish.
First of all, you're sensitive to others' opinions, that's a given.
Second, negative emotions are a catalyst to change, so dig deep to find out why it affects you so much. Was there some event in your past that makes you feel selfish? Was someone in your past really selfish in a way that hurt you? Do you feel like you're being selfish in your day-to-day activity?

You'll figure it out. Therapy will help if you can't get to the bottom of it on your own. In the meantime, briefly look over Personal Bill of Rights that's linked in my 'sources' below - you have a right to be (somewhat) selfish! :)

Hang in there!

hiya 'hayley'

are you a teenager?
if so many teenagers get emotional over the tiniest little thing, whether its just one thing or many different things

what your describing is just a fear you have of being selfish and when people call you it you feel you are being selfish

just ignore them, they may just be sarcastic or say it without meaning it

i don't think its bad enough to see a therapist but if you feel you need to, go and see them to put your mind at rest

all the best x

It shouldn't be serious enough to send you to a therapist. It just means that you are hugely affected by what people say about you. It's normal, I mean who doesn't feel hurt when people tell you that you're selfish? Just try not to think about it too much. Most of the time people just say it in a casual way and don't know how much it affects the other person:)

pressure on your heart, throat closing up, crying are all symptoms of an anxiety, panic attack and if you suffer from generalized anxiety disorder ( GAD ) you need to see a psychiatrist. it is treatable and you can stop the symptoms !
