How much does it cost to see a psychologist?!

Question: How much does it cost to see a psychologist?
I'm 18 years old. I really need one. No, I'm not searching for an ehug. But I've been cutting for 4 years and haven't stopped being depressed. I've even gotten to the point where I have anxiety attacks a lot and just want to die. I can't ask my parents to take me cause they don't "believe" in that kind of stuff. They think I'm an idiot for wanting to go. So is there anything free? Like possibly going to a hospital and checking myself in? Please, I need help and no one will help me.

Answers:

My health insurance covers my psychologist. In fact, they gave me a paper with a long list of psychologists they cover. So all I pay is the $40.00 co-pay. You should call your insurance carrier and ask them which psychologists they cover and hopefully they will give you names. You can do some research, make some calls, and go from there.

I admire you wanting to reach out for help, you've already made the first step which is admitting you need help.

In my city there is a place that offers free counseling to people who can't afford it. They specialize in grief but help with anxiety as well. You should make some calls and find out if there is any place like this in your city. But I would try calling your health insurance first.

A psychiatrist is also a medical doctor and will be covered under your health insurance.
A psychologist will not be covered, as they are not 'medical' doctors.
Going to the E.R. for an emergency may get you admitted and able to see a psychiatrist for treatment.
I don't know where you are (U.S.?) and if you have health insurance.
Cost is expensive.
A psychologist is about a hundred for 50 minutes.
A psychiatrist is about $150.00 a session--but, as mentioned, is covered by insurance.
Many schools and employments have a free counseling service--which you could find out about to get started.

The answer depends on whether or not you have medical insurance. If so it is easy. If you want medication you will need to see a psychiatrist on your medical plan. If you don't have health insurance there are public health clinics that can help you. Search free mental health clinic in your county to find one.

A Psychologist is a therapist and they are about $100 dollars if you just need professional advice and guidance at this point. They will then refer you to a Dr for medication if you both agree that you need it.

If you are insane, it probably won't cost a penny though.
