Anti depressants, and anxiety?!

Question: Anti depressants, and anxiety?
I told my doctor i suffer from mild anxiety and can get stressed out of minor situations, but my main problem was falling asleep.. i get anxiety and can't fall asleep cause i worry about not falling asleep and stay up for hours just lying their trying to fall asleep. I am only 17 and he prescribed me Extine 20 and when i read up on it i found out it is an Anti depressant... I am not depressed or suicidal... I can be anti social... but yer, It sais u shldnt take them if u are under 18 cause it can cause suicidal thoughts if u are under 18. I just wanted a sleeping pill so i cld get into a sleeping routine, should i take these pills? Will they help, or was my doctor just trigger happy on the diagnoses?

Answers:

A serotonin deficiency can cause anxiety and difficulty sleeping. Anti depressants work by increasing the serotonin in the brain. This may correct insomnia and anxiety so this is what the Dr, is thinking when prescribing this. The suicidal thoughts are a concern only in depressed patients and you are not depressed so that shouldn/t be an issue. The brain chemistry of anxiety and depression is very similar so this has a good chace of helping your symptoms.

Doctors are pill pushers, worst than the street dealers of crack IMHO.
Have you had any therapy/counseling for your situation? Have you considered meditation, self-induced hallucinations (non-drug induced) or Buddhism? There are many holistic approaches to problems.
As you can tell, I hate medicines, doctors, drugs, and the entire pharmaceutical industry.

With anxiety comes depression and with depression comes anxiety. I'm 16 and I was diagnosed with both. And I would trust your doctor. He knows what's best. If you have questions, try calling your doctor. Take care

Take them, and see how you feel. If they don't help, tell the doctor.
