Why do I avoid eye contact?!

Being scared or uncomfortable within yourself. A feeling of low self esteem would usually do that. Or a feeling that you are wrong about something. It is usually a feeling that you are uncomfortable within yourself for some reason or that you don't feel that you are as worthy as the other person that you are talking with. Sometimes it can also happen because you feel embarassed or shy if you are talking to member of the opposit sex.

yeah, i think it's just shyness. you might just need to build up some confidence. They aren't going to bite you if you look them in the eye. Just try to stay in eye contact once. It could help get rid of some of that fear.

Could be shyness. Or else you might be embarrassed that you got caught looking at them, thus looking away.
