Can isolating yourself from friends make OCD worse?!

Question: Can isolating yourself from friends make OCD worse?
Okay so my friends OCD started to get really bad to the point where she had and eating disorder and was very unhealthy. I think being really underweight and unhealthy really screwed with her mental health on top of being OCD so she stopped hanging out with me. I'm pretty much her only friend. I see her quite often because our families are friends but we havn't really talked in over a year. I try to make conversation with her but she is in her own world. She does not have any friends and is really clingy and dependent on her parents. She has panic attacks all the time. We used to have so much fun together and I miss that. I can't really have a serious conversation with her about how I feel because it would be awkward for her and might cause her to panic. Could having friends help her a little?

Answers:

speaking as a person with a serious mental illness, its best to keep the friend number as low as possible. pretty much down to the people you can trust with your life. for her, that seems to only be her parents. the best thing to do in your situation is to accept that things will never be the same with her and let her know you're always there if she needs someone to talk to. best of luck to both of you!

also, when people have panic attacks, most of them do want to be alone. having multiple friends can cause the person to be much more sensitive and worried, unless they fully understand her condition and how to treat her. just dont force her into anything.

yes.having friends would certainly help a lot. It puts her in a more regular, less self centered environment. and when these panic attacks occur it's like she's not the only one there,ya know. Just try and get her to do something with you
