Strange Fear, Is there a phobia for this so I can tell someone?!

Question: Strange Fear, Is there a phobia for this so I can tell someone?
Is it normal to be afraid of your own Veins. I cannot look at my hands, feet, neck, ankles, and wrists.
I can't stand needles because I picture the fluid going through them. My class is starting to learn about veins and blood. I am scared I might faint. Whenever I see someone drawing on there wrist I feel dissy and sick. What do I do

Answers:

Lots of people are scared of their veins. It's called venophobia; and it's where someone can't stand looking at any vein (theirs or someone else's) and can't stand any talk about veins. My sister has this phobia, along with some others.

Venophobia is often accompanied by Aichmophobia (Fear of needles or pointed objects), Cardiophobia (Fear of the heart), and Hemophobia/Hematophobia (Fear of blood); all of which are common phobias. If someone consistently passes out at the sight of blood or needles, or if they are triggered into losing consciousness for other non-medical reasons it's called Vasovagal Syncope or a vasovagal response.

If your phobia is causing you grief you can see a psychologist for graduated exposure therapy, where they help you overcome your fear by gradually exposing you to the things that scare you. If you don't want treatment, or you can't afford it, then you may just have to learn to manage it :( Tell your teacher that you have a phobia of veins and blood, and ask if you can step outside the classroom for a few minutes if it gets to be too much.

i cant look at my veins and i hate woching the backof my wrists or the back of my knees and hate people drawing on wrists

there isnt realy anything you can do about it

i also fainted before an injection a few years ago

i know exactly how you feel nd its awful and soemtimes people just dont understand!

all the best x

I am totally the same way!! I have a terrible sensitivity to the thought of flowing or moving blood. I will literally be so close to passing out it is ridiculous!

What I do is make myself calm down and look at my veins or whatever it is that is bothering me. As long as I don't think about *flowing* blood, and especially blood flowing out of the body, I am fine. This may work with you too :)

thats a legitimate phobia and it's actually very common.

i forget the actual word, but i think fear of veins is venephobia and fear of blood its hemoophobia.
fear of needles is trypanophobia

i know a lot of people that are creeped out by the idea of blood flowing through them.

Sounds like a phase not a phobia, I had a friend who was the same, she out grew it by the time she left school.
