To cure an emotional (non-drug) addiction, is it best to go cold turkey?!

Question: To cure an emotional (non-drug) addiction, is it best to go cold turkey?
Cold turkey, meaning STOP all reminders of it.....complete extinction?

For example, if you are addicted to a certain group of people, is it best to starve yourself of the group completely, stay away from the group altogether?

The reason I'm confused is because opinions on curing emotional addiction are numerous and divided. Some talk about childhood or go into the reasons for being addicted. Others say Ooh, you need to get a hobby. Improve your self-esteem.

But no one has said exactly what you're supposed to do (behaviorally) in relation to the addictive content itself (ie the group of people).

Answers:

No. You should start just reducing your addiction little by little until nothing is left.
