Can irrational thinking get someone arrested if it's gone too far?!

Question: Can irrational thinking get someone arrested if it's gone too far?
I was talking to someone about how I was going to turn myself in for making a mistake regarding a rule for my tattoo shop--this rule has nothing to do with health code nor age regulations--it's something else that can easily be fixed. I am taking care of it before I actually get in trouble; also, it's possible that I have been misinformed about this rule, so I have been researching the by-laws. I MADE A MISTAKE!! I also ordered sophisticated infection control products that hospitals use, so that inspectors will do back flips and smile. I never know for a surprise visit, which is why I'm having top of the line cleaning products. When I told my friend (whose been in business for a while) about this, about turning myself in, she thought i was way over my head for wanting to turn myself in for something I didn't know about. Basically I was told to do the rule correctly for now on here on out and learn from the mistake--and not to stress so much. And she said if I turn myself in, I can get in trouble for being crazy and irrational. And because of my irrational thinking, she questions my ability to run my own tattoo shop. She said, "you're not capable of running a business if you keep giving into all of your irrational thoughts and panic thinking worst case scenario". And yes, she said I can get arrested if i act on irrational thoughts--can that seriously happen??

Answers:

Irrational thoughts can lead to irrational behavior. But, you usually have to really draw some attention to yourself to get arrested for irrational behavior. Think of all the irrational homeless people wandering around. You are more likely to get in trouble for failing to get your business taken care of, such as filing taxes, keeping licenses current, etc, because when people are mentally ill, they often reach a point where they struggle with day to day activities.

Your friend is advising you that you need help, and you are clearly struggling with anxiety. Your best bet is to walk into your family doctor's office, explain how you have been struggling with anxiety and that you friend has expressed concern, and see what your doctor has to say.

I agree that if your error has not placed anyone in immediate danger, then the proper action is to correct the deficiency and make sure it is correct moving forward. Businesses are never perfect. A responsible business owner makes periodic inspections and corrects any problems that are found. This is a normal process, and business routinely do find deficiencies during inspection that do need to be corrected. There are normal processes for reporting things like errors on your taxes, or known exposures to infectious disease. The fact is that police and regulatory agencies have limited resources. If you are correcting your problems, and no one is in danger, then you would be taking their attention away from more serious matters.

Best Wishes and Good Luck!!

Adam sadly sir we live in a time if you fart wrong you get arrested. It's good you are doing your research but be it known crapp sometimes hits the fan regardless!

Your friend is wrong.
NO ONE has ever been arrested for their thought processes....ever!
And so your friend is not a good friend when she gives you this misinformation.

And so here is your rule of thumb in deciding about what to do:
Was the health and welfare of ANY of your customers compromised? If there is a chance that you may have passed on a communicable disease, then you owe it to these people and yourself to CORRECT this, so that they may follow up on medical services to safeguard themselves.
If no ones health or welfare has been compromised and you yourself have VOLUNTARILY corrected this problem, then I feel that you have nothing to report. And as you have said, you might have gotten misinformation about the law and so you are taking steps to check this out. And this is the correct, responsible and normal thing to do.
I wish you all the best.
