I have a few questions?!

Question: I have a few questions?
Well doctors are supposed to keep things confidential. If i told my psychiatrist i was feeling suicidal would he have to tell my parent?

Also what the hell is wrong with me? All i think about is suicide and self harm, death. Im on medication, but that doesn't help. ive been on almost all the medications out there and none help. Is it just because of the way I view things? Im only 14 and my views on life are much different than people my age. Do people just underestimate me because i'm a "child"?

Bri, if you have suicidal thoughts on your mind, you do need to talk to your psychiatrist about it because having suicidal thoughts is nothing to ignor. It's very serious. I must tell you though that if you tell your doctor about these thoughts, he has the legal right to have you committed into a psych unit, therefore, your parents will know why you were committed.

I'm not saying your doctor WILL have you committed, but he has that legal right. Depending on why you have these thoughts, he may just change your meds or put you in intensive therapy on an outpatient basis.

Try to keep in mind that everything in life is temporary. Though you're going through some hard times now, these times will pass.

Yes tell your therapist and tell him not to tell your parents.
When I was 14 I became suicidal to up until I was about 16. I thought the exact same thing. It's extremly difficult when 80% of your thoughts are of how to kill yourself. Tell your therapist, my biggest regret is not telling anybody and suffering alone. Looking back now, most of it truly does have to do with your age. At that age the teens brain is undergoing so much growing and changing that the chemical balance is so off. You're not a child, your a young adult, your parents just don't want you to grow up and everybody else will see you as a child. Idk if you care for this part, buton of te biggest thing that helped me was my faith. If you dont follow the christian beliefs than just ignore that.

You sound a lot like me :[ Things are confidential between your psychiatrist and you but if he was concerned that you may be "unsafe" which means at high risk of something bad happening to you/causing dangerous harm to yourself. So if you teel him for instance that you've made a suicide plan which you'll carry out, he'd probably have to tell your parents.

It's quite likely that you're just ahead of a lot of people of your age, and that many don't have as much to worry about. Could you be depressed?

Be careful and I hope you psychiatrist can help you :[

If you tell your psychiatrist that you have an immediate plan to harm yourself or others, then by law she will have to recommend you be hospitalized. I know that because I went through what you're going through. Other people your age feel this way too- 14 is a tough age. Adjusting to school, puberty and sex...their is so much going on for you right now. I got through it by just trudging along. Things will get better with time.
And you should always be strait with your psychiatrist. They are there to help YOU. They have no personal adgenda, and are concerned about your health- not your parents. You'll get through this dear!

hiya

your psychiatrist has a right to keep things quiet, and what you tell him is confidential

but if he thinks your going to do something stupid or harm your self he has to by law tell your parents

but its not gonna come to that yeah?

if you want a chat e-mail me anytime via my yahoo profile

all the best and you must tell your psyhiatrist about how you are feeling x

Depends on your age. If you're a legal adult, then they have a legal right to keep it all confidential. If you're under the guardianship of your parents, then they will have to, legally.
