Does therapy actually work?!

Question: Does therapy actually work?
I know someone who is firmly under the belief that you are the only one who can truly help yourself, and that therapy is for the weak--they are also very much in need of mental help, I suspect they suffer from depression or bipolar disorder. How do you get someone who is too proud to ask for help, but really needs it, to go find it?

Answers:

yes, therapy does really help but you only get out of it what you are willing to put into it. you have to be willing to be open up and be totally honest with your therapist at all times or it does no good. i myself having been through therapy before prefer a psychologist over a regular therapist. a regular therapist will only deal with the present but a psychologist also deals with your past, which is where your problems usually start. my therapist is wonderful and has been a big help to me. after we found out what caused my problems we are now working on solving them. they don't happen over night so don't expect then to go away over night.

personal experience.

Just tell them to please go for you , but reassure them they are strong but you want them to go to prove you wrong. They won't open up at first but hopefully eventually eveything will be bbtter cuz even if they don't take at least the therapist can give them good advice

Does therapy actually work? For some, it can, for others, no.

How to get your friend to go? You can't really make them.

Depends on the person
