How should I go about talking to my doctor?!

Question: How should I go about talking to my doctor?
Does medication really help anxiety, ocd (intrusive thoughts), depression (Comes and goes)? Really? How do I not be embarrased about these issues? What do I say to the doctor? Can a regular doctor help or do I have to go see a head doctor? What medication will they most likely give me for these things?

Answers:

Your family doctor should be equipped to prescribe medication for your anxiety/depression/OCD.

If/when you decide to go talk to them, just tell them about how you've been feeling lately. I promise you this is not an uncommon thing for many people to feel.

My wife had been suffering anxiety/depression for a long time 'til we went to our family doc, told the doctor about how she's been feeling lately, and the doctor completely understood. She gave my wife a form to fill out, listing off an emotional questionnaire (remember that there are no wrong answers for this quiz, it's just to get the general range of your thoughts), and after reading the form my wife filled out and talking with us, she prescribed Cymbolta.

The medication she gave my wife helped immensely. It might not be what they give to you, but whatever the case, it can help stop the feelings of being stressed, tired, and high-strung all the time.

I wish you well :)

If you're 16 or older then you can make it confidential and then you're mum won't have to know as you have the right to withold information. You can get notifications via text, email , anything really! I would just remember that there is a code of silence in a doctor's office and they are non-judgemental so you should feel free to say whatever you have to in order to get better :)

Perhaps you could just say something like "I've researched depression and I think I might have it" and go from there. They are very impressed with pro-active people and will be impressed you've taken the decision to come and see a doctor :)

The doctor/GP will give you an initial assessment and then probs refer you to a psychiatrist/mental health people where they can give you special support and guidance.

Medication helps in most cases (not all) and they will probably start with the lowest dose of the most generic drug, in the case of depression it will probs be Prozac.

Hope this helps and good luck! x

It sounds like you have been having a difficult time. Doctors can help you sort through these questions and feelings, as well as help you figure out what things would be most helpful. Everyone responds to medication differently, and if prescribed they will take your specific information into consideration when deciding. Doctors are used to talking to people about feelings like this, so just be honest with how you are feeling. You could also talk to family, a school counselor, a therapist, pastor/priest, or even go to a hospital. Just talk to someone, so they can help you!

If you want to talk, you can also call the Boys Town National Hotline at 1-800-448-3000. You can also email or chat with a Counselor at the website www.YourLifeYourVoice.org. Take Care!

First, call your doctor and when the receptionist answers, ask for a referral to a psychologist. After the intake session with the psychologist and telling him what's wrong, they will decide whether or not medication would be best fit for your situation. If they believe that you should take medicine, they will send you to the psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will give you meds and will want to see you rather frequently to make sure the meds work.
