Do I have OCD?(It runs in my family)?!

Question: Do I have OCD?(It runs in my family)?
Okay I am thirteen and I think I have OCD.Well each morning I put 12 dabs of deoderont on each armpit,I do everything by 3,I hate odd numbers,I turn thevolume on by even numbers,I hate to have an odd number channel on,I must know where everything is,When I throw something away;I constantly check to see if I actually threw it away,Iove to organize things,I check the locks on doors after I locked them to make sure they are still locked,I wash my hands so much they crack, each night;I take my pillow's and flip them on the other side-like if I don't do it then I can't go to sleep,I love to work by myself so I can do things the way I want(I'm a control freak),I absolutely hate sharp things because I could get stabbed or swallow them..Also,I have a thing about swallowing things like I am afraid that I swallowed something I didn't.Do I have OCD?

Answers:

I am no doctor, and honestly, no one but a doctor (psychologist/psychiatrist) can diagnose you for sure, and they need to see you in person and have an appointment and discuss your symptoms, to give you a diagnosis-- But in my opinion (as an OCD-diagnosed person), I believe you exhibit plenty of symptoms. I do the deodorant thing, hate odd numbers, turn the volume on the TV and radio by even numbers (sometimes 5 is okay), constantly check that things are what I thought they were, ovens/locks are turned off, doors are locked, enjoy working by myself so that things are done the way I like them to be done-- and I am not, by nature, a control freak. I recognize these behaviors as different from my personality.

I, in my completely UNprofessional opinion, believe you have OCD. The fact that you have a family history of OCD is also telling. Is it something that is well known in your family and would be supported, such as you seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist? If so, I would highly recommend you talking to a parent or other family member and making a dr. appt.

Good luck in everything!

Definitely sounds like it. Get counseling now or it will take over your life.

Big time, girl! The good news is there are lots of meds to help.
