Very scary conscious dreams?!

Question: Very scary conscious dreams?
Some nights as I am drifting off into sleep I start having a dream that takes place in my room and im laying in my bed. I feel sort of half asleep, half awake. there is usually a very loud noise like a banging. I can't move. I feel like i can't breath. It's as though something is holding me down. I try and try to wake up and I just can't. One time I managed to wake myself up by screaming. This is taking over my life and turning me into an insomniac because after it happens I am too afraid to try to sleep. I call them my "ghost dreams" because its like a ghost is holding me down. Has anyone had these?

Answers:

They are probably Hypnogogic Hallucinations. Its when you are in sleep paralysis and dream while awake. Its basically a sleep disorder and i think there is some forms of treatment for it.

Its sleep paralysis, it happens to me too. I try to be in a calm and quiet environment before I go to sleep so that when I get into bed I have less thoughts going through my head. It happens to me when my body is tired but mind is awake, so I try to calm down and relax before going to bed.

ohh man. i have them every night. no joke. its so frustrating. in my dreams theres the "black csi-crime scene investigation" haunting me and trying to kill me. i always run away but he allways gets me. in my dream i called the police but he killed them like nothing. i keep having this same dream every night. Btw i know its a dream but i just cant wake up soooo frustrating.

Maybe you are actually being haunted. Or, you have done something that makes you feel like you should be haunted, I should say. You might also be on medication, when I took ritalin for adhd I always thought there was trees attacking me (the branches).

I have had things similar to this, and I hope you try what I suggest because I'm almost certain it will work. Before you go to sleep at night say some prayers. You don't necessarily have to recite one- you can just talk to Jesus and ask him to take these bad dreams away and help you sleep soundly through the night.

So just ask Jesus to protect you and help you- he will.

One prayer that I like is the Guardian Angel Prayer:

Angel of God, My Guardian Dear
to whom God's love entrusts me here.

Ever this night be at my side
to light and guard and rule and guide.

Amen.

Another good one is the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. (link is below)

I don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in angels, good ones who serve God, and well, lets call them ex-angels who no longer serve God who are 100% bad.

Jesus Bless You.
: )

It's up to you, my friend. I've heard the sleep paralysis explanation before and it is plausible but that does mean it's in truth the cause, however. Why are you an atheist?

(I have a science and engineering background so it's not like I'm a person who doesn't believe in human reason and whatnot. Anyways, hope your sleep problems go away. Take Care.)
