do you think my friend is addicted to video games?!

Question: Do you think my friend is addicted to video games?
i live with a room mate who plays video games all night and all day then sleeps for 20 hours the next day and the first thing he does when he wakes up is turn his xbox on and continue the cycle. when hes not playing video games he is online talking with video gamers or playing halo on his lap top he spends too much money on games and refuses to go anywhere because of the video games and hes also a chain smoker now i don't know what a video game addict is maybe you could tell me if my friend is one. ps his video games of choice are war related games which annoys my other friend who served in the war and says this guy should go to war for real and stop living in a fake war on a video game i have to agree.

Answers:

Take away his XBox and his laptop and hide them somewhere and then gauge his reaction. If he goes mad and starts raving all over the place then he may very well have a problem.
Then again he might just go mad because you have taken his property.
But be sure to tell him when he realises his consoles are gone that you think he has an addiction to online gaming, which does exist, and that you're doing it for his own good.
And then when he says he doesn't have a problem ask him if he can go a week without gaming to prove it, obviously he won't, and then destroy his ****.

Your buddy there is definitely an addict if he spends that long on the system until he finally gives in and his body has to catch up with the rest he's stubbornly deprived himself of. I don't suppose he's heard of those kids in Asia somewhere who died from fatigue, malnutrition, dehydration, and other cases from playing World of Warcrft too long? He is totally missing out on life too. I have a buddy who loves the war games, spends too long playing so I and my other friends try to get him out more often.

I will have to say that he is addicted to video games. You said he is a chain smoker and that means he's addicted to smoking and people who have addictions such as that are prone to many other addictions.

He needs to get a life, introduce him to some other ****. I play video games from time to time, but "social gaming" I.E when you talk to other people on a video game in anything other then small chatter you have a problem.

yes i think hes addicted. i used to play games 24/7. but then my xbox was taken away from me and i used to cry all nights. but now im fine and dont need to play it anymore
