Do i have a mental disorder or just a mental illness?!

Question: Do i have a mental disorder or just a mental illness?
Do i have Schizophrenia,

.I already been to the hospital 2 times and they have already dignosed me as depressed,

.I have it on my mothers side and they said that i have a 12% chance risk of catching the illness,

.I also studied online that there is a equivalent illness besides schizophrenia which i curable its called psychotic depression, and it seems that i do have signs related to that illness, which are anxiety ,mental distress, loss of interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day nearly every day, or hallucinations. I don't have memory loss or lack of concentration.

.The pills that they give me makes me feel like i'm retarded and it doesn't even take away the voices
the pills name is (Respidone). I take 2mg, and a 1 1/2 mg every day and there still is no effect. i feel like I'm unable to talk in sentences anymore, just a loss of intellect when under the influence of the pills.

Could i possible have schizophrenia becuase i have gotten depressed and and sick i mean i never smoked before which increases the chances of catching the illness, never had trumatic life experience when i was developing as a kid, the only thing that i had was getting depressed when i was studying in college i would stay up late at night and study all day till like 7 in the morning, and i got depressed with so much stress i had accumulated with taking so much classes and work, so if im genetically at risk of schizophrenia on my mothers side could all these factor give me schizophrenia or psychotic depression??

Answers:

Being honest I really don't know. What I do suggest is that you talk to your doctor about your concerns and they should be able to tell you. Also if you feel the pills are too strong let your doctor know. I do know that not everyone inherits what things their parents have for example I am the only one out of my 4 siblings that inherited Asthma and only one of my sisters and I Inherited depression and bipolar. I get depressive psychosis when extremely depressed, hallucinate and hear voices. I cannot comment on schizophrenia as I do not know enough about it. Get yourself to your doctor for some peace of mind.
I hope this helps

Mental disorders aren't just limited to one unfortunately. You could have both schizophrenia and psychotic depression. I am bipolar and depressed. Sorry - definitely need to keep seeing a doctor and taking the medication though. Psychiatric medications sometimes take weeks to begin to work- so be patient.

I understand, the medicine will create another issue so 1st, drop the meds, find a hobby, fishing, video games, bowling, working out, etc., don't tell everybody everything, talk to God in plain english, he'll understand you, using all that terminology will enhance the quagmire you have on the inside, be yourself & not anyone else, stay in positive circles of people who are doing well not someone who going to add drama your way....

The DSMV which is the diagnostic manual used to determine mental health issues is about 6" thick. Psychiatry is an ever evolving science and many factors go into deciding how to categorize a persons state of mental health.

You can never get a definitive answer of your question on this forum. The only way to make a determination is for you to talk to a mental health professional. Make a list of all of your questions. Make a list of all of your feelings/thoughts and present them as part of your evaluation.

it's quite possible that you could be developing schizophrenia but you don't list any of the symptoms of it such as haring voices or seeing things or smelling things that others don't. so my guess is that you don't have schizophrenia at this time. so please don't worry about it. i have taken the medication
respidone and it did nothing to help me so i went off it ten years ago.

You cannot be diagnosed here on yahoo answers. Only a qualified doctor can do that. A hospital isn't a place for an accurate diagnosis. You need to see a doctor regularly so they can figure you out. Mental problems aren't something you can diagnose in one or 2 times. It took multiple doctors 17 yrs to figure out I was Borderline, why.... because I was a manipulative child, teen and I have people fooled.... well turns out, Borderline people are good at acting......many disorders are the same way...... You can't figure it out over night.....

see someone regularly if you have a problem and want help... it sounds like you do want help......
