My life is falling apart because of depression?!

Question: My life is falling apart because of depression?
I am often too depressed and tired to go to school. I'm 16 now, and have had a depression all my life. I stopped going to school last year, and dropped out halfway through year 10. I'm going to TAFE now, to finish year 10 and start my VCE. I've been struggling to go to that too though, and have regular days off. If I don't go to this, I won't finish year 10, and my whole future will be ruined basically. If I go when I don't feel up to it I totally lose it though, and start crying. I don't want to do it from home either though, because I DO want to be out and around people. I'm really confused, and my boyfriend doesn't help me at all. He doesn't do anything at all, no school or work, so he just sits around doing nothing. He encourages me to do the same thing, but I don't want to. I am so tired all the time, and after going out for one day I'm literally exhausted. I have trouble sleeping at night too, and mostly sleep during the day. What should I do? I'm scared it will all get worse :(

I think you really need to see a Doctor. They will be best placed to help you. Explain to then exactly what you have here, and they can help arrange counseling and support. I don't usually advocate medication in some one so young, but maybe some short term meds will help give you a start and lift your mood enough for you to carry on your studies. It is so important for you stay connected with people, otherwise you become isolated and more depressed. You don't want to limit your contact with people to just your boyfriend - especially as he isn't so supportive. Support from therapy will help you to stay strong, and help identify and tackled the cause of you depression. It is so important that you ask for help.

Get rid of that boyfriend and get on an anti-depressant
