Why does depression worsen insomnia?!

Question: Why does depression worsen insomnia?
First off, people always say that you are too young to be depressed as you haven't experienced enough in life, (not to me, directly). I've not been feeling as bad as I have been before; but now it takes me hours to get to sleep, i just lay there thinking about getting up at 6.30 for school the following morning. I don't want my grades to go down, like in history; A*, A*... Then an E. I don't want to draw too much attention to myself by it, because they'll think I'm just being lazy. I know I am, but because I'm only fifteen I feel embarrassed about it, so i never say about it, just act like every thing's fine. I don't want to say, but its just really bad things at home, and certain people at school don't help it either, (I'm not bullied, its just paranoia...)

Any tips on how to get a decent sleep without feeling like a bag of _ the next day?

Hey, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad.

You're not too young to suffer from depression and anyone who says that doesn't know what they're on about. Depression is often because of a chemical imbalance in the brain and this can be caused by life stresses or a hormonal imbalance or a mixture.

Depression doesn't always cause insomnia, it sometimes causes the reverse where you want to sleep all of the time. But it does affect your sleep pattern either way. I've had depression and I did suffer from insomnia too. It's a horrible vicious cycle once you get into it and I guess it's the anxiety that's often linked to depression that causes it. In turn the insomnia, then makes the depression far worse and it's often hard to determine which has caused what and function normally in the day.

The best medicine for insomnia, is to try and break the cycle of worry. You will survive the day even if you don't sleep and you've got to try and stop obsessing about whether or not you will sleep or not. That said, that is not easy I know. Other things to do are don't take naps, stick to a regular bed time and get up time and do relaxing stuff like a hot bath or reading before bed.

If it carries on, see a doctor, there are many treatments out there for both depression and insomnia.

Hope you feel better soon.
