What makes a person bipolar?!

Question: What makes a person bipolar?
I already have clinical depression. This morning my mood was so low...I was crying in the doctors office. This afternoon I met with my therapist and my mood had changed. I wasn't happy but yet I was smiling; I couldn't understand it myself. Are these emotional swings normal?

Answers:

I suffer from Bipolar type 2 and also am clinically depressed. Now, just because you are depressed, does not mean you are bipolar. You need to have highs of some degree as well. Not just depression. Daily changes/swings can occur, but what we are talking about is a period of time when manic or happy, then a period of time of depression. Not being able to have full control of your mood is common as well. You Doctor can diagnose, but there is no perfect diagnosis, many doctors get it wrong.

You can talk to others who suffer with the condition.
