Question: Can someone put my fear of the possibility of getting seriously ill and needing an operation into perspective?
Answers:
If you think it, it will come. Meaning, if you think you'll get sick you will. It's called hypochondria which is a very severe mental illness where you think you are sick all the time, and think you always have to go see a doctor. Doctor's aren't gods, and they make mistakes, just take care of yourself and your body and be healthy. If you want to go skydiving, do it, but if you are so scared, then don't because your mind will mess you up and you will break your legs. What I'm saying is that your mind wills everything in your body, if you feel a flu coming up, and you give into it, you will be terribly sick and then you take the medicine that doctor's give you and it kills off your body's natural immunity. No one can give you reassurance with regards to mental health, you just have to understand that you are fine and if something happens, well then it does, you can't live your life in fear of the inevitable. Good luck.

You don't need to fear surgeries. You just sleep during them, you won't feel a thing. After you wake up, everything is done and you won't feel any pain. And yes, they insert tubes down your throat and into your lungs but again, you won't feel it. You won't even know it. And besides, the chances are very low that you need an operation. Most of the health problems are solved with medication.
