Possibility of expulsion has made me severely depressed. What should I do?!

Question: Possibility of expulsion has made me severely depressed. What should I do?
Last weekend, I borrowed another student's homework and submitted it into an online grading program. (I am in college.) Normally, a student submits the work to themselves to check their homework, and then submits it to the instructor. I was tempted to cheat, but my intention was to check the other's work to see if it was correct, and then use it as a reference, while not copying it directly. The email that I got back indicated that the program had detected an identical submission. I freaked out and submitted my own work as it was, but after a long delay in my work being graded, I fear that- possibly today- my instructor will tell me that I am going to be expelled. (After a look at the syllabus, I found that it very clearly stated that what I did will not be tolerated under any circumstances.)

For days now I have been severely depressed. Though I doubt I would act on it, thoughts and dreams of suicide have entered my head. If I am expelled- perhaps even if I am suspended- I feel that I would at least have to exile myself. I have come to the discovery that without honor or achievement, I am nothing. Expulsion would take both of these things away. My parents and my friends love me, but I would only be a burden if I stayed. Not only that, but I could not bear to face the shame.

Before this, I was an honest student, loved and held in fairly high regard. This was not a downward spiral; it was a fall from a cliff.

Please help me.

Answers:

Go talk to the professor and tell him you made a really big mistake. Which you did, even if you were only going to use it for reference. I'm sure you are smart enough to do your own work. You'll feel better f you do something now, rather than wait to see what happens. Honor is more important than achievement.

i would admit to the teacher and tell them that you tried to cheat and apologize so you don't get in worse trouble. Your worse worry will probably be suspension.
