Major anxiety... need help. please answer?!

Question: Major anxiety... need help. please answer?
I am terrified of everything. I hate stairs. I hate tables. everything scares the beans out of me. Im seeing a psychologist but its not helping at all. in fact im even scared of the room i go into... and the psychologist... its like paranoia but with the environment and everything around me. due to this anxiety i often get headaches from overactive senses. anyway. I am having trouble in trying to explain to people what my condition is. ive tried to do it once before but everyone either completely misunderstood or wasn't even listening. due to this ive had a massive sway of depression over the last couple of months and was convinced to commit suicide. I need advice on how to tell people about it and something to deal with this. info about how other people have been coping as well would be ideal. I know its a bit much for one question but just one bit would do. please answer asap thanks for reading the question... also, any extra info needed will be supplied.

Okay, how long have you been seeing a psycologist? Most appointments need to be going regularly because you might not see a difference after one time. Please hang in there, I don't know you but what you said about how you wanted to commit suicide really touched me, and I really want you to get better. Some tips that might help, write down all the things you are scared of, and write down why, this will get you to realise that some of the things are nothing to be worried about. Instead of telling people, write when you have a scared moment how you feel. These documentaries will help your advisers diagnose and help you. My mum had a break down and she took time off of work, try and do something you enjoy, my mum just liked doing house work and cooking because she felt it was theraputic.

I felt this way for a while and it happened with a horrible panic attack I got and it got so bad that I would fear everything to the point I would leave the room I was in, not even to go outside and what helped me out was talking to a therapist about it and taking some coping classes through Kaiser. The thing that helped me out the most was exposure therapy, meaning I would face my fears and see that there really wasn't anything to fear at all until I became less afraid and now I am back to the way I used to be. Don't let anxiety control your life, control your anxiety! The world can be a scary place, but you have to learn to deal with the scariness!

How many psychologists have you seen that were unable to help you? It sounds like you have a generalized anxiety disorder with a lot of specific phobias. You might want to get a psychologist who won't just let you talk it out but will go ahead with Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) because essentially all these fears are in your head. I'm sure you know very well that a table, stairs or anything of that likeness won't harm you. You may need to do relaxation and exposure therapy or systematic desensitization (either imaginal or in vivo) which is just gradually putting you situations where you have to face your fears or slowly introducing those things into your environment. Participant modeling (to where someone you care about for instance, may be around chairs, tables, or stairs and you realize nothing bad is happening to them) might be beneficial as well as contingency management which is pretty much just reinforced practice.

You just need to find out where these fears come from and know that they are irrational and want to be better about not fearing them. You have to want to see an improvement because they psychologist can't fix you on their own, you have to meet them half way. They are just there for guidance and structure. The headaches you are experiencing comes from stress caused by your anxiety, trust me, I get them as well when I get a bit panicky. It got so bad for me during my senior year of high school, that they ran all these brain scans on me because I would have blinding headaches that left me without sight for a while. I'm a person who takes on a lot in my life and I don't notice the stress that I'm placing on myself.

So just learn to relax, check out some of those therapies and see which works for you. I'm sure, I'm 100% confident that you'll be able to get through all of this. I know you can do it :]
