I can't go to sleep without my TV on?!

Question: I can't go to sleep without my TV on?
So, I have a slight problem. I can't sleep without my TV on. It didn't use to be that way. When I was a kid, I didn't have a TV in my room so, I had no choice but to sleep without it on. When I finally did get a TV in my room, I found that I couldn't sleep without it on. Of course, I also have to have noise like a fan or the air conditioner running. I have to have noise and some kind of light to sleep. I can't explain why. Most people say they need silence and darkness to sleep. I'm the complete opposite. I was just wondering if anyone else has to do the same thing as me or if I'm just "special."

Answers:

Your just "special" lol
If you sleep really good with the T.V on then do so, I sleep with my Ipod going every night and i even got my kids trained to music. Now i know why people give me strange looks when my kids say I know that song I love 80's music right dad? lol. So play that t.v until the antenna falls off.

Good Luck Tiger and pleasant dreams.

No, there are many people who need certain things in order for them to sleep. I, myself, need the a.c. on because without it everything is too quiet and I can't sleep. Even when it's cold out I have air on, not on as low a temp, but I still have it on blast. Lol, it drives my partner crazy. Which is funny, because she likes the t.v. on when she's going to sleep, which irritates me sometimes. Everyone has their thing.

Personal Experience.

same thing here. not really to watch it but just to listen to the sounds i guess. it kind of eases me to sleep. I also usually have the overhead fan on and a air purifier. For the lights, I sleep best if i have my bedside light on and my desk lamp. I always thought this was weird to but now i know. As far as my parents, they sleep with the tv off and absolutely no light. The only sound is my dad snoring. I don't see how they can do it. They don't see how I can sleep with all of the stuff i have on either.

i do the same thing. I personally have to have a tv on because when i look into the dark too long, i see things that are not even there. It scares me to death . i have to have a tv on, or someone in bed with me (the tv distorts the dark enough and for some reason, it doesn't show up when i am in the same bed as someone) . I think i have security issues . How do u feel when the tv is turnd off? Good luck

meh

this happens to everyone i can also happen with music and reading i.e i listen to podcast because i cant sleep without people talking. Your brain basically gets use to sleeping with these things try slowly turning the tv down volume wise and brightness wise until you dont need it anymore.

Nah, a lot of people need noise to sleep. I am one of them.

You are undoubtedly "special." :) But certainly not alone. My mother couldn't sleep without the TV; neither can I. I have experienced insomnia since the onset of puberty, and it's either the TV or medication at doses so high it takes literally hours to get going the next day. I have some sleep music CDs that help--not really music, more like scientifically programmed sounds with a musical quality--and those help, but unless I'm exhausted to the point of passing out, I need the TV. I don't know what the root cause is for you or other posters, but I can pretty safely say that I need the TV because I have severe ADHD, and I need the TV on loud enough to distract me from my own intrusive, non-stop thoughts, but not loud enough to distract me to wakefulness.
