Do I need to seek help?!

Question: Do I need to seek help?
I don't do this regularly. I have thought about it. I have the lifestyle of moving a lot. I play sports and am all around athlete and tend to be happy all the time. I recently cut my middle arm past the skin to the vein. Is this NORMAL? I am not a "seen" person or "emo" person. I have everything I want. Should i seek help or can i get some advice. I see the new person in the for my ex and I right away want to fight. This isn't me. Can I please get some advice. Were are these thoughts coming from?why are they coming? Why don't I find a strong belief in God? How can I overcome them? Please help.

It sounds like talking to a therapist might be helpful to you--especially if you are physically hurting yourself in such a serious manner. It doesn't matter what "type" of person you are, everyone goes through periods of troubles, its just more severe for some of us that others. This can be due to many factors from hereditary chemical imbalances in the brain, to the way we are raised, experiencing trauma, and even just being at ages where our bodies are experiencing hormonal changes.

It sounds like you are fairly young, so, the combined factor of being a teen and having your body still developing and also having the instability of moving often can be very stressful for you. It is NOT NORMAL to physically harm yourself, in anyway be it cutting or drugs/alcohol. Depression, however, is not uncommon at any age.

I don't think you need to worry about your belief in God. If it is something very central and important to your life to believe in God, you may just be going through a phase due to your depression. If its not really that important, I don't think you should worry about it, religion is just another way to offer comfort and if that is not what works for you, there is nothing wrong with that.

You should talk to your parents about getting some therapy if you think they will listen. If not, talk to your school counselor or ask to go see your regular doctor and have one of them talk to your parents about getting you some help.

Hi,
I'm presuming that you actually took a very sharp instrument and cut yourself so I have to say yes. I would absolutely seek help of some kind. When a human who considers themselves "normal" and then suddenly, without any reason, changes...it's time to talk to someone about it. A family member or friend first...then on to a professional. Good luck to you and get some help. :) :) :)

You need to seek help from a psychiatrist or therapist. Cutting is very serious! So is the agressive behavior. Professionals can help you get to the root of the problem and help u live a more mentally healthy life. I strongly encourage you to seek medical help ASAP!
