Xanax XR side effects duration?!

Question: Xanax XR side effects duration?
It's my second day of taking Xanax Xr 1 mg in the morning (and my first time with anti-anxiety meds ever). It makes me tired and gives me a headache (yesterday I slept for 4 hours after taking it and today is a bit better). Should these effects wear off in a week or two as my body adjusts or am I going to have to live with this? It seems to help with the anxiety though!

Answers:

Hello. My experience taking Xanax, and other drugs for anxiety, is that they make you sleepy. Unfortunately, that is one of the side effects of these drugs. They did help my anxiety, but even after being on them for a while, i still always felt tired. Try taking your medication in the evening, when you'll be going to sleep anyways. I had problems sleeping because of my anxiety, so taking them at night helped me sleep better. That only worked for a few months though. The problem with these medications, is that your body gets use to them over time, and they stop working, so you have to keep taking more every time that happens. The first 2 or 3 months, i felt better, then after that, they stopped working as good. You shouldn't stay on them for long periods of time anyways, because they are addictive, then you will go through bad withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking them. They do work very well for short term use though. Good luck, and take care.

about six weeks and it'll feel doable. worth the wait.
