Self-esteem issues... Please help :( ?!

Question: Self-esteem issues... Please help :( ?
I've suffered from depression and anxiety for a few years now, and it's been full of ups and downs. There's times where I feel like nothing could go wrong, and there's a lot of times when I'm overly stressed, down in the dumps, and things just feel like they're at a stalemate.
I've been on anti-depressants for a while as well, and I feel like they've helped make me more laid-back, but haven't helped my self-esteem issues. I'm very insecure and feel like no matter what, I won't be as beautiful as I expect myself to be.
Lately I've felt like the most unattractive thing in the world. I'm not sure why... I have a boyfriend who tells me I'm beautiful all the time, and he doesn't do anything to make me feel like I'm not. I just feel that way myself. I used to feel beautiful, and happy, but now I'm in a bout of depression again, and I feel lower than low. I worked so hard to get to the point of being happy, and now my self-esteem has plummetted because I feel depressed again. All I want is to be happy with myself again. I want to love myself for who I am.. not who other people want me to be.
I'm not sure how to fix this... I know other people can't really help by telling me things, I need to fix this on my own. Is there any way I can make myself feel beautiful and happy again?

Answers:

You got tell yourself that you are beautiful and you are worth somthing and think about all the good things going on in your life right now. Think about what really makes you happy and if people are wanting you be someone that you dont wanna be then they are not tru friends to you. The happiness is in you

find a hobby so you dont think about your stressors

You will lose your looks when you get old. Can't help that fact. So, I would forget about how you look. Try and concentrate on how you feel on the inside instead perhaps. I find praying to God helps me. I am not bothered about how I look that much these days.

Hope you find your way to happiness. I'm still working on that one myself.

It was a nice sunny day today. I went out in it. I find that sunny days help to make me happy.

Well... like you said, i doubt some one here telling you anything will actually help, but id just say one thing. It could always be worse: "feeling the most unattractive thing in the world" and NOT having a boyfriend who tells you otherwise... or you may become addicted to anti-depressants and drift to more powerful drugs, and eventually become a crack whore with an abusive pimp (HAHAHA, sorry im actually trying to help). Well... you get my drift right? or... i can keep going rofl?

It could always we worse!

I have had the depression for some months now and have finlly managed to begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I promise you, it's there :)

This is a website I have found useful, (I have C&P relevant info) http://artofbalancedliving.net/2008/10/0…

Massage–You could’ve guessed that. Depression has physical symptoms. You can feel achy, almost flu-like. Massage eases general achiness. It also causes the body to release endorphins which are happy hormones. It can help by making you feel pampered and cared for. Self-massage also helps. Try massaging yourself every morning. Sign up for my health newsletter here and get a free guide about various forms of self-massage.

Exercise–It may be hard to get out and do, but exercise does a lot to cure depression. Getting aerobic exercise for at least 30 minutes three times a week will really help. If you need motivation hire a personal trainer or exercise with a friend.

Eat Right–You already know what I’m going to write, but I’ll right it again just in case. Eating whole unprocessed foods really effects your mood. Also take a good multivitamin and make sure you’re getting enough omega-3 fats.

Get Out–I know winter is steadily approaching, but getting out in the sun is another great mood booster. Nothing beats physical exercise outside on a beautiful day.

Service–Do something nice for someone else. You can start small and work your way up. Offering help to others can help you recognize that you have something valuable to contribute in this world. Here’s a post I wrote about the joy you can feel by serving others.

Get Spiritually Connected–I’m a Mormon and was raised my whole life with the idea that I’m a daughter of God and He loves me. That was an abstract thing that I didn’t take very seriously until I was in my late twenties. Then suddenly one day it really took hold, and I realized that it was true. No one here on this Earth is worth more than anyone else. You are important and loved. Take time to figure out what spirituality means to you. As you do you’ll have a deeper appreciation for yourself and others.

Other than that I have found that being put on medication (Prozac 20mg) has helped although it has taken 2 and a bit months to kick in and I still get really anxious.

I have also taken 2 months off school to give myself time to rest and I find it helpful to have some weeks with no counselling appointments because then you don't have to focus on anything and have time to fully relax and do whatever you want to do.

Plus, sometimes there is not a specific reason for a person's depression and it's just a chemical imbalance but sometimes there is, try and be proactive (I know it's hard) and think about what could have caused it, the sooner the problem is identified the sooner it can be solved and worked though :)

Hope this helps and you get better soon, lots of love and big hugs :D
