is picking at scabs really a big deal? should i stop doing it?!

Question: Is picking at scabs really a big deal? should i stop doing it?
ive picked at my scabs for years but i think its just the kinda things most kids do (to a certain age), and ive never stopped, my mom always tells me to stop, but i don't know if i can (i hate that they are there, any scabs i have i feel compelled to pick at because i hate their very existence, not to mention how they feel), or want to; i find it to be relieving, and it feels like its helping me deal with my mental issues just like cutting does, only that picking at my scabs has never gave me a scar.

im working with a professional to deal with my mental issues (depression, anxiety, sometimes i feel unreal and paranoid, sometimes i have mood swings and feel amazing from minutes to days at a time before i crash back down to being really depressed, and i struggle with the urge to cut myself on an almost daily basis), but i don't know if i will ever feel better, i have hopes that maybe medication will help because so far im unmedicated and talking alone doesn't seem to help much.

To me, it sounds like you have a nervous habit. I know - I used to pull my hair out strand by strand every day, and it got especially bad during my parents divorce. I have a very prominent middle part now, and I am so thankful that I didn't do that much damage to my scalp beyond that. I barley ever do it now - I think it is because I must have grown out of it or worked through something. Although it may seem hard now in whatever your facing every day, just know that things will get better. Try giving yourself a goal and work toward it. Give yourself only a certain time each day to wish for something to change in your life. Try to make that amount of "sad time" lessen over the course of a couple months. I have faith in your capabilities to not only stop this nervous habit like I did, but find and face the hurt that caused the habit itself.

i picked at my scabs, it was hard not to...

it isn't a good thing, excpecially because of the possable chance of infections...
also if you pick the same one multiple times it will eventually scar... (or it did for me at least)

I think it's better then cutting, burning, etc but its still something you should try to avoid if possable...

I actually did this too until it got so bad it really hurt to do it but I couldn't stop. I ended up putting a fee band aids on it and forced myself not to scratch it. I was lucky it didn't get infected but it gave me a scar. My advice for you is to cover the scab do you don't even see it.

Yeah, it is bad. Your fingernails carry all sorts of bacteria in them, and eventually picking at your scab is going to give you a nasty infection, possibly even staph infection if you happen to be very unfortunate. Also, picking at scabs can give you scars.

Picking scabs has killed before. I recommend you try and stop. One way is to put a band-aid over the scabs.

Woah way too much info for scab picking.. well its Normal to pick a scab i did it when I was small but eventually stopped, everyone is different that's just your qurik its no big deal! That makes you, you! (The urges of cutting yourself.. have you ever done it?? If not its just all in your head, your probably thinking about it too much. You could conquer that ocd w.e yu want to call it. By distracting yourself with activitys like drawing or writing a great way to express yourself.
