What's the difference between Bi-Polar Disorder and Borderline Personality !

Question: What's the difference between Bi-Polar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder?
What's the difference between them?

Answers:

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder, whereas Borderline is a personality disorder.

The most obvious difference is the speed of the mood swings..... Bipolar moods last for months and only change 2 or 3 times a year where Borderline moods last for minutes or hours... maybe a day or two. Also in Borderline there is selfharm, suididal threats, eating disorders, manipulative behavior, temper tantrums, and other dramatic behavior that is not common with Bipolar. Physiologically Bipolar is an actual defect in the brain that causes certain chemicals to flucuate creating the moods but Borderline has no brain defect... Borderline is psychological, meaning that it is learned behavior that is not due to a physical defect, this is why medication works for Bipolar but does nto work for Borderline..... there is nothing physically wrong with Borderline therefore nothing for the medication to fix.

With Bi-Polar disorder, there is periods of Manic (could include periods of happiness), and there of periods of depression, and can be treated with mood stabilizing medication as well as anti-phsycotic meds, usually a combination. There are many different personality disorders such as OCD, ADD, ADHD, Depression, etc, all which can also be treated with meds, finding the correct diagnosis can be difficult to do because most disorders run comorbid ( a combination of tow or mare disorders) Hope this is helpful!

Borderline is created by a bad childhood, usually with abuse whereas bipolar is biological.

What triggers off emotions bipolar is exactly the same with normal people but the emotions are more intense and last much longer and therefore they can easily build up to problematic levels, with either manic, depressed or mixed episodes. These episodes last, and someone in mania, might not even sleep for days on end. Its typical for bipolar to have very long episodes, and long periods of normal moods inbetween. It's a common myth that they have constant mood swings throughout a day. Depression often follows mania, because you burn yourself out.

Borderline, is characterised by short, intense, mood swings, triggered off, by an unstable view of themselves, and other people (especially in relationships). This is why they have a fear of abandonment and see things so black and white. One moment they feel completely in love and over a small understanding they'll become deeply hurt. They never experience the long episodes of elevated moods, where they feel unstoppable, and euphoric, and even when they're depressed they seem to snap out of it very quickly. I think it's almost impossible for them to not have caotic relationships.

Mood stabilizers, help with bipolar, as well as sleeping pills and sedatives in manic or mixed episodes.

Therapy is the only thing that could help with borderline, and it also helps bipolar to a point.
