It's like any other field of work, you have good ones and bad ones. Either way to answer your question, they use a theory of psychology to guide them, or a mix of theories. To try and help people solve their emotional troubles. It be a good job, easy enough,overall, ( other then suicides, but you can't win them all) and it'd be interesting, always something different. And it'd make you feel needed, who doesn't like that ?
they make you talk about things that you dont want to talk about
make you cry
then make you leave with useless advice that you could of got from the homeless person outside the local pub! waste of time
i had CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) for 2 years
useless.
some try to help you with your problems, others are very lazy and just sit and listen
