Why is addction considered a diesese?!

Question: Why is addction considered a diesese?
How and why is being a Alcoholic or Drug Addict considered a diesese now? Thanks.

Answers:

Because the government says that it is. I don't know why they do, but that is the way it is. If you are a drug addict or alcoholic you have a disease, if you are overweight your are handicapped, but if you smoke you are just a s.o.b. Is that clear????

A disease is an abnormal condition affecting the body of an organism. It is often construed to be a medical condition associated with specific symptoms and signs. It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious disease, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases. In humans, "disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted
Addiction causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted
it's a chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in the individual pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors. The addiction is characterized by impairment in behavioral control, craving, inability to consistently abstain, and diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships. Like other chronic diseases, addiction involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death

its not....
its an addiction... its not a disease..... you can't catch it off someone else and is not contagious.

i would like to know where you got the idea that is a disease? who said that?

when i worked in The Priory, there was an addictions treatment programme, addictions are not treated the same as mental illnesses because its different... and mental illness / addictions are NOT ever seen as diseases.

I was taught - addiction is a disease with no known cure!
That is some totally BS, honestly.
Although I agree that addiction is simply anything habit-forming, it does have a cure and not all addictions are bad!
However, most are damaging to ones body and self-esteem.

It kinda is one a disease that can be cured its bc of the fact that when you get addicted to that stuff it takes over you and makes you think differently then you normally would. A disease takes over your body just like addictions do.

Its nature is chronic, continuous, and progressive. In other words, having it is contrary to good health, and untreated, it will kill.

I don't know people are lame and stupid.

Considering an addiction just works counter productive, since most people just take drugs to fight disease lol
