Very complicated medical question?!

Question: Very complicated medical question?
If someone were to hit their head and fall into a coma, would doctors be able to detect amnesia while the person is in a coma? Like with a CT or MRI? It's weird, but I was just curious on how that works?

Answers:

Doctors may be able to see brain damage on a CT or an MRI, but they cannot tell what the effects of that damage will be until they are awake.

A neurologist may be able to make an educated guess about how the person will be affected based on which area of the brain incurred damage, but they are not always correct. The brain can fix some damage or compensate for it by recruiting a different area of the brain to perform the same function; this concept is referred to as plasticity. Children often display a higher degree of brain plasticity while adults seem to gradually lose this ability with age.

Personal Experience (I fell into a short-term coma in January, but recovered with no brain damage)

Using MRI or CAT scan may show damaged area/s of the brain if any shows up since the trauma may not totally be detectable. So at best they can guess by disseminating the data acquired.

No they wait until the person awakes from the coma. All they can do before that is give an educated guess based on their personal experience.

Ask a medical professional.
