Should I go back to my doctor?!

Question: Should I go back to my doctor?
Last month I went to see my GP because I have been very upset for a long time now - almost a year. He went through my symptoms with me and he decided it was stress. I went back the next week - he offered me counselling numbers but I already have a counsellor. He said there was nothing left he could do for me. The thing is, it hasn't gone away and there is no cause fir my upset, just stresses that add to it. Should I go back to the doctor? People have said that they think I should be on medication so I should ask about it?
I can't face this any longer!

I would suggest going to a Psychiatrist they have more knowledge and can give you a evaluation and see if you need meds or not

i would call his office and ask for a reference for a psychiatrist who can not only give you a good diagnosis but also decide if you need medication and can give you a prescription for one and help you in the long run. the fact that your GP said that he can do nothing indicates to me at least that he would not be willing to give you medication otherwise he would have done that the first time you were in his office.

been there.

You said you already had a counselor, but did not make it clear if this person was an effective psychotherapist, who helps you to process out problematic psych. material...or not. You need one of these, a well as a psychiatrist...the latter, primarily, because he/she can prescribe meds..which might be indicated in your case (in addition to psychotherapy, which many psychiatrists do not provide).

Holistic doctor and psychotherapist.

sucks that your gp wasn't much help. please look into counseling, you don't need or deserve to feel like this!

You need to see a mental health specialist. Ask your counselor for a referral. A psychiatrist can prescribe medications. Be patient it often takes time to get the right meds.
