Change is very hard to do. I want to become assertive, confident, and have self-!

Question: Change is very hard to do. I want to become assertive, confident, and have self-respect. Any suggestions?
I need a place to start and maybe a way to gauge if I'm making progress or not.

Assertiveness, confidence, and self-respect are difficult to objectively quantify, as they tend to be subjective (what one feels or perceives).

You could define situations where you have lacked assertiveness, and defind in clear terms what the assertive response would be, and then track how often you do and don't follow through on the behavior.

You could also try to define confidence in the same way. This could be done by asking yourself "If I was adequately confident, what would I be doing differently?" and then define that behavior.

Same thing with self-respect.

To track progress, you'd want to define the behaviors and activities, then create a baseline (observe how often you do the behavior, or fail to do the behavior), and from that baseline, you will be able to track progress.

This self-monitoring is frequently attempted in behavior modification therapy.

you can start by taking better care of yourself and pampering yourself. that makes you feel good and then other people will start to notice and also praise you, maaking you feel good too. its a cycle of confidence...how do you think confident ppl get the way they are? its cuz they're used to getting positive response, so they become unafraid cuz they know they're liked for who they are.

experience. i felt better once i started taaking care of myself
