confidence problems when speaking in front of class?!

Question: Confidence problems when speaking in front of class?
I had to to present a paper that I wrote about for my written communication college class today, and I made a complete *** of myself in front of the whole class. I knew what I was going to say, but when it came down to presenting in front of others, my mind went completely blank and i failed to articulate properly and started to stutter and sort of 'loop my words'. I felt like a newborn trying to form words for the first time.
It's not that I'm not confident, I have confidence in the way I look and in social scenes such as parties, but something about presenting in front of others makes me lose my train of thought and overall, makes me look like an idiot. I'm also very self concious of what people think of me.
When I was done presenting, some guy next time turns and told me I did a good job, and then turned away and laughed to himself. My friend Corey just bolted out the door without even saying goodbye when class was over, and that sort of made me feel isolated. What's even more inconvenient is that I have to give a film speech a week from now and I don't know if I can really get up there again without looking like a fool......are there any books or websites or really anything I can use to help me overcome this? Public speech has always been something that has hindered me from making friends in a class room and made me look bad in front of cute girls :|.

Tips for doing a presentation

Know your subject matter really well and practice reading to your dog or just out loud to yourself ahead of time.

Look over the heads of the class at a point on the wall in the back of the room. The class will think you are looking at them, and the teacher will think you are looking at your audience.

Don't notice any reaction from the class. Their reaction doesn't matter, but it might make you feel more nervous.

Concentrate on what you are saying rather than how you are saying it.

Don't try to keep from stuttering as that will make you stutter more. If you stutter, just let it happen.

Maintain a steady pace, not too fast, and don't get in a hurry to "get it over with."

Speak in a relaxed manner and pause every so often.

Start into words easily keeping your lips, tongue, and jaw relaxed.

Realize that stuttering occurs more often when you are trying NOT to stutter, when you are under stress, and when you are tired.

Do you know what the second greatest fear is from a national pole? Death. You know what was number 1? Public Speaking! So you arent alone. It is really hard, Its one of those things you just have to overcome. No real trick to it. Just think of how you feel when someone else does it. You dont mock them... Its hard but just stand up straigh, and smile, tell a joke. Girls will respect you more for it not less.

I'm in high school, pretty much same with me, except i passed out once. I would suggest gathering a group of people prior to the presentation and talking in front of them over and over until you feel ready. that is what i'm going to do for my English 4 IB IOP. All it is, is common stage fright, it happens to everyone. What happens is you worry that your are going to mess up that you can't focus on the presentation so that you do mess up. I know the feeling your mind goes blank you begin to shake some and you just can't get the peoples eyes out of your head. Its a horrible feeling so I would suggest praticing and taking mind over matter into this issue. I hoped this helped.
