Sleep problems--HELP!?!

Question: Sleep problems--HELP!?
I have severe depression, and cannot wake up until 3 or 4 in the afternoon, no matter how early i sleep the night before. Even if I sleep at 9pm, I can't get up until the afternoon. And some nights, I can't fall asleep until 4 or 5 in the morning, no matter how hard I try. Basically, getting to sleep and waking up are the two hardest things in the world, mostly because of all the negativity that runs through my mind, and my depression. I've been on Lexapro for four months, but it hasn't helped. What can I do to feel better?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

My son has suffered with insomnia since he was a toddler. He has a reversed sleep cycle - sleeps days, awake nights.

He's also a massage therapist and told me of an aroma therapy aid for sleep. Lavender is apparently very conducive to sleep - he doesn't like the smell so it isn't helpful for him. Using it in scented oil, candles, or bath soap might help relax you enough to sleep.

Other factors might be getting in the way, such as too much light. I have a streetlight right outside my window. Even blackout drapes don't block it. I finally bought an eye shade at the dollar store that works wonders. And just the other day I heard on the radio that sometimes people have difficulty sleeping because they are too warm and keep waking because of it. They suggested lowing the temperature at night.

I don't know if any of this will be helpful. I pray that you will be able to find the solution you seek in the suggestions of all who reply.

Go to a health food store and get a liquid supplement called sleep assure. It has melatonin in it which helps you sleep. It is all natural and is a delicious lemon flavor. It wont make you drowsy the next day. I pay 13 dollars a bottle for it. It is 30 ounces and you only need a cap full. Sometimes I take a little more. Look it up online to see where to buy it.

1. Avoid caffeine and sugar
2. force yourself to get up at a normal hour
3. Try not to fall asleep until its time to go to bed
4. Don't go to bed if you are not tired
5. try reading

First of DONT TAKE LEXAPRO. Ohmygosh I don't cant even stress that point enough.

I just googled the side effects of taking Lexapro... Look, trouble sleeping and suicidal thoughts or attempts are in there. Just the other day actually I watched a video of someone who commited suicide from being put on Lexapro. Go the natural way. If you are upset about something, handle it. If you can't sleep it is usually ALWAYS a vitamin definciency. Drink Calmag if you can't fall asleep as well. Natural remedies really do work.
