Is it possible to develop schizophrenia from smoking marijuana?!

Question: Is it possible to develop schizophrenia from smoking marijuana?
I don't have any close (or distant) family members with schizophrenia, but I do smoke marijuana quite a bit. I've heard that marijuana can trigger the disease, but can it happen if you don't have the right genes?

..Yes, it most definitely is, and evidence is mounting more and more, especially if one has smoked 50 or more times by age of 18, which one then is 6 times more likely to develop schizophrenia and/or other psychoses..You can judge for your self by looking this up on sites such as, Wikipedia and/or Everyday Health and others..My daughter was diagnosed with drug induced schizophrenia, using marijuana only, more than 6 years ago..As long as she does not use pot, she is just fine, but one joint will put her right back into this mental illness very quickly, so I know there is much truth to this..Take care...

Marijuana cannot cause a human to develop schizophrenia by itself. However, like most psychoactive substances, it can cause schizophrenia and other mental illnesses to begin to show symptoms if you have a family history and "had the disease buried away in your genes" (sorry, I don't know a better term for that statement).

A number of studies have shown smoking marijuana to be a potential cause for a psychosis to develop in people - including schizophrenia. And, if the person is genetically predisposed to developing a psychosis, it will occur earlier in life than it otherwise would have.

If your not predisposed to schizophrenia then the likelyhood of your getting it is very low

only if everything's black and white and this middle aged man's voice is narrating your life.
