Question: Has anyone suffered anxiety and agoraphobia, and found something helpful to get over it besides medicine?

I also suffer from anxiety disorder and agoraphobia. I'm still working on a lot with my therapist, and i've made a little progress that i can share with you. As far as the anxiety goes i have found slow breathing exercises to be very helpful. Take in a slow deep breath. Hold it for 5-7 seconds. Then slowly exhale. Repeat this until your anxiety subsides. I also have CD's that have the sound of rain and the ocean which i find very comforting. I also bought myself this thing that has a little waterfall and the running water can be very soothing. I have a really hard time going outside. There are a few things that have helped me with this. First off, i always try to prepare for the appointment by asking someone i trust to go with me. Usually it's my son, and he's more than happy to go with me to medical appointments. Another thing that has helped me is to join groups with people who suffer as i do, and we provide support for each other. I have a case manager who helps me through it all. Plus, a very caring therapist who is willing to come in my home 2 x"s a week, and who is very patient and understanding. I hope this helps you a little. Good luck and God Bless!
