Techniques to stop or lessen OCD habits?!


Question: Techniques to stop or lessen OCD habits?
My worst OCD habit is picking/scratching at spots on my skin until they bleed. :(
Are there any methods that people have found helpful for eradicating this particular OCD habit? I know that other people have this same habit...

I have OCD. I have Tric. The only thing that works for me is to just keep my hands busy or keep myself busy. Its hard to keep busy the whole day but try and draw, write or read it probley sounds dumb but if you keep your habds busy your mind will focus on other things. I have relapses almost every day and all i've heard is cognative therapy works the best if it even works att all. But thats for a phyciatrist to decide not me. Hang in there, it taks alot of will power,but your headed in the right direction, asking for help. -good luck :) :)

Depends on your frame of mind; you'll either want to stare at the spot you want to scratch until you no longer want to scratch it, or you'll want to punish yourself in some way anytime you do scratch it.

Although, it sounds like you should just trim your fingernails until they're too short to scratch with; pretty nails just turn people away when they're covered in bleeding flesh, so they might as well go. Once you can't scratch your skin long enough, you'll stop feeling the need, and break the habit - then the nails can come back, but not before then.

Have had OCD myself since childhood; now it's just about small things no one notices.



best thing to do is tell a doc because it will get worse if you don't(your skin will get really damaged if you keep picking)
Just talk to your doctor and if s/he can't help you don't give up looking for help.
Yahoo people can give you temporary help but it won't help as much as a psychiatrist or psychologist can.



You know Silly Putty? Get some or some playdough and keep the container in your pocket or bag, if you need to pick or start to pick stop and grab the silly putty and play with it until the urge it gone. You should go to a doctor too but keep your hands busy so you don't infect yourself and cause scarring.



Lass, there are treatments out there for OCD. Please see a doctor; if you pick at your skin you could wind up giving yourself a nasty infection. Peace to you.
