Does Anyone Here Have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? How Do You Cope?!
Question: Does Anyone Here Have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? How Do You Cope?
I have spent a lot of time learning about myself and my mind and because of it I am now a happy person. I am a positive thinker, I'm working towards my dreams and have a supportive immediate family and boyfriend.
But when I come across a trigger, I get flashbacks so vivid I almost feel like I'm hallucinating. The emotions are so strong it feels like I'm still there. It can feel like this for the next couple of days, and having flashbacks during work is horrible because I feel like breaking down but I have to smile and pretend nothing is happening. Sometimes it gets so bad I start panicking and too much and I start scratching my arms (habit from when I was in the situation that caused this).
I've started talking to a psychologist but it's slow progress. I want to be able to think about the past without it affecting me. But some things are so hard to say out loud and I start crying. Right now it's so big. I don't want it to affect me like this.
So my question is... if you have PTSD, what coping methods have you found work? And what steps have you taken to overcome it altogether?
Thank you very much for your help! :)
