Do you believe in antidepressants?!

Question: Do you believe in antidepressants?
I have tried so many antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and anti anxiety meds. The only thing that ever worked for me was the anti anxiety medicine. But I have had no luck with the depression treatment. If you have had luck beating depression, please share your experience.

It depends on the person. I've been on many many different things for many different 'disorders' when I only have depression and anxiety. I still haven't found anything that has worked, I have been off of everything for 11 months and just found out I was pregnant so I will continue to be off of it until after the baby is born. The thing that did work for me just recently was a diet that my nutritionist put me on- organic, gluten free, herbal supplements, etc. It actually made me feel quite a bit better but I started slacking and eating bad again and now that I'm pregnant can't take the supplements. It was the last resort thing to do but it did work. If you can afford it, I would find a nutritionist. Feel better!

PS, had depression and anxiety since I was young, on medication for 7 years

If you haven't already, you should ask your prescribing doctor to refer you to a psychiatrist for a complete evaluation. They will over many things a primary care doctor may not know to ask, and you may not know to mention. If you have a condition like Borderline Personality Disorder that is presenting like depression, you may not have the same benefit from an anti-depressant as you might from a mood stabilizer. You may need to discuss changing anti-depressants or changing the dosage. You could also discuss supplementing your medication with natural treatments like St. Johns Wort, light therapy, and vitamin supplementation.

you will eventually find an AD that works for you
they need to be tried for up to 3 months and can start working overnight

find out each AD dose range and work dose up close to the max, many docs keep the dose too low

your dosage needs to become higher I am on zoloft it works fantastic for me but I still after 2 years sometimes have to get my dosages upped. they do work thought because they release chemicals that make you happy in your brain.

i tried 4 other antidepressants until i got the lexapro. it's great.
