Question: How do you deal with your depression?

I'm 21 and I've been dealing with depression on and off (mostly on) for years now. It's been getting worse to the point where I had to quit my job 3 months ago. And my relationship is a little rocky. Anyways a doctor put me on citalopram in october but they made me feel like a zombie so I stopped taking them. A few weeks ago I got really sad and got drunk a lot and hurt myself purposely. I can't believe what I did and I'm so embarrassed by it. I want to feel happy again. What do I do? Who can I turn to? Do I take the meds? Do I see a psychiatrist? What can I do in my life to help myself?

im not sure. im in the same situation, but im not living for myself, but for the girl i love. i know it sounds really cheesy, but she's told me many times that she wouldn't know what to do without me. if not for her, id be long gone by now. try and think of how your death would harm your family and friends.

It's God or drugs. I took some trippleCs (cough meds) and got high and happy ,worked everytime. The trip changes you, idk why but it does.

Read the book ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It puts alot of little lifes answers into realistic perspective.

I know where you are coming from. I just got out of the hospital for depression and have had it since I was about 11 and am now 23... I took myself off my meds a few years ago but am realizing even though I don't want to be back on them, I need to try.

I would see a therapist, talk to someone. Get back on meds but try a different kind. I was on zoloft for years, and it worked well. That might help you. Look around, google some good meds for depression but your therapist will be able to help you more than anyone here.
