What is a Mental/Psychiatric hospital like?!

Question: What is a Mental/Psychiatric hospital like?
In a few weeks, I'm going into a Psychiatric hospital for depression.
Its a private 80 bed hospital and I'm going into the adolescences unit.

I'm wondering what it'd be like, and what I'd end up doing in there. Also what is not ok to bring...
(like what the rooms are like, eating times, activities and therapy)
Anyone been in one?

The one I've been to is pretty abysmal. There is little to do. Next to no quality therapy. It is mostly about "stabilizing" you on medications. The one I've been to you are not allowed to bring anything at all. There was group therapy but it was pretty lame.
The one you are going to could be much better though.

ok well ive been in a psych ward. they are actaly pretty cool. u see i have OCF obsessive compulsive fear, i asked my parents to check me in to learn how to deal with my problems. the staff was cool, the activities varied from movie night to basket ball, exercise, and outside time. i spent alot of time with a girl i met in there, her name was ally and she was an alchaholic, pothead, rebelliouse sex addict lol. we helped each other out. you will make freinds there (its not exatly hard to fit in). you get regular visits with therapists and psychiatrists to check your progress and give u meds to keep ur crazy person levels down, as doctor sheldon said. as for the support group your results may vary. see when i was in the mental hospital it was all very steriotypical. hello...my name is jake, i have OCF, clinical depression. hi jake. and then there was one on one time, and many types of therapy, anywere from simply talking about random subjects to work on people skills for those socialy challenged, to actualy dealing with every individuals most tragic and painful moments and memories. i belive you will learn alot from your experience in the "wacky shack". you will learn alot about your self and how to help maintain a healthy mind. you will also learn alot about those around you as well.as for the rooms.. mine sucked, it had inflateable pillows:( the meals were actualy great, you cant bring hats or jewlery, and pretty much anything you can harm your self or others with is off limits. they give you your own shoes and some dont even let you wear clothes with pockets. meal times vary. the hardest point is after the first week, you miss home and start hating the place u r in. but the bigger fuss you make the longer ur gonna be in ther so have fun and get better ok? =)

me :P all me

seeing as it is private I don't think you need worry. As you know where you are going why dont you go on their web site for info.
