Can antidepressants do this?!

Question: Can antidepressants do this?
I've been taking Celexa going on 2 weeks now. It seems to make me more depressed and I've even been having suicidal thoughts. I'm taking it for anxiety and mild depression. It seems to take the physical symptoms of anxiety away but I still have the mental symptoms and I have worstening depression, and it seems to blunt my emotions. I really don't like it. Is it just more or is the antidepressants doing me wrong?

Unfortunately, some antidepressants have a worsening effect on patients. You need to talk to your doctor about coming off these as soon as possible, and trying a different one. There are cases, they're very rare, but they exist, where patients' symptoms have become worse, and led to suicide.
It's not worth "waiting it out" like with other side effects- just like if you were having heart palpitations, or passing out, suicide idealisation is a very serious side effect and your doctor should be told immediately.
Best of luck.

Taking antidepressants for 5 years.

Information that is often included in the box of antidepressants will usually list "suicidal thoughts" as one of the possible side effects of the drug. They DO sometimes have this effect and it is a serious side effect. You need to see your doctor right away. When you're dealing with medication that effects the chemistry and therefore, function of your brain, you want that medication to be working properly for you. The risks to your wellbeing are too great to mess around with. You need to see a doctor and have a different medication prescribed.

Yes some antidepressants can have that effect. Some individuals, such as yourself, cannot tolerate certain antidepressants. Call your doctor ASAP and tell him/her what is going on. There are some brands that take as long as two weeks to have a noticeable effect on depression, but in your case it is having an adverse side effect.

Anti Depressants can do that. I would call your doc about your worsening depression symptoms. You may need to adjust your dosage or use a different brand type of SSRIs.
