Is it bad for a teenager to be around only her parents all day, every day?!

Question: Is it bad for a teenager to be around only her parents all day, every day?
My sister homeschools her daughter (my niece), who is seventeen years old. She has been doing this since my niece was in 5th grade. I know most homeschooled kids have friends and do activities and things, but my niece doesn't do anything. The only time she goes out of the house is when she goes to college for one college class that she is taking, but she doesn't get to socialize with anyone because my sister drops her off when the class starts and picks her up when it is over. I have asked my sister why her daughter doesn't do things or have friends, and she told me she has offered to put her in sports or in clubs but she always says no. I think my niece is depressed because she seems to want friends, yet she isolates herself. She has told me that she is really lonely and that people always "hate" her. What should I do to help? And how could this isolation affect her? Could it really cause her to be depressed?

Not per se. The parents of today have a difficult time keeping their children on track and away from harmful influences, and her mom has gone over board, it sounds. On the other hand her child has no way of building confidence and the message she may be interpreting is she cant handle things.
They both need some experienced professional help to move past this and make a plan that builds up the daughter, and satisfies the mom.

Someone experienced with that age group should know how to help.

Maybe your niece lacks social skills which is why the home schooling program insists on a college class. Maybe you could take her out to place like movies etc or somewhere she will meet other young people what if she went out with other cousins her own age. Poor social skills will hold you back no matter how smart you are.

College is only one year away. Many people bloom in college, as it is a time for new horizons and exposures.

Tell her to get involved in an extra curricular to get into a better college
