Are these panic attacks?!

Question: Are these panic attacks?
I have anxiety disorder, when I was diagnosed they just put me on prozac, I was only 7 or 8 so I don't even remember anything my aunt said (she was my doctor) I'm now 12 and my anxiety is a ton worse. I used to just get annoyed or aggitated easily but now I'm overwhelmed when I'm around a lot of people, and I HATE getting help at home. I just can't do it. It makes me overwhelmed and anxious and nervous. I just break down crying uncontrollably. I can't stop until it just passes over and I'm left with sadness and all I want to do it lay down and sleep it all away. When I have these I just curl up into a ball and cry and shake. My parents yell at me and are always so mean about it. Nobody understands and it makes me feel worse and I cry and shake even more. I also get so nervous when on vacation and in places I don't know. I just panic and get shaky so I just lay down and wtch tv or read a book until it goes away after a few hours. Are these panic attacks? I don't feel like the prozac is working anymore and I just don't know what to do.

Answers:

Have they ever switched how much prozac you are taking? Because it is very possible you need to bump up in the dose. And that is ok, because your body is just getting used to it, so you need a bit more. Another thing that you can switch to (i'm no doctor but I sifer from this too) is sertraline. As your aunt about it, and maybe she could switch you to it.

As for your parents, by the way they are acting I can predict they have never been through anything like this. Dont let this get to you. I've been there too. You NEED someone who will understand. There are many anonymous hotlines. And really you dont HAVE to talk to your parents if you feel they dont understand. In fact, if you just need to talk, you can message me. I have been through this and I will do my best to help you!

It seems like you have been through a lot in just 12 years, and you seem really strong, and I'm sure you are!

Don't be scared about what you are feeling. There are many people who feel like you do (I was one of them)

You are not alone! Take care!!

You sholdnt ahve been put on that medication you are so young. I was put on it at 13.

You need to go to your doctor, tell them and ask for CBT, cognotive behavioural therapy.
I am a panic attack sufferer and it does sound like a mild form of them. Seek help before it controls your life

Kid, just forget about it....you just feel nobody is good to you....these are just hormonal changes....get over it....you are absolutely fine....

You should see a doctor about this. If your parents won't take you, talk to the school nurse and see what she advises.
